Some people are like Slinkies; they really are good for nothing. But they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

THIS IS: The PLog
I may not always BE right, but I always THINK I am!
Is it just me, or...Posted May 13, 2009 - 11:43:52 AM by Pug

...is the internet completely overrun with flaming liberals?  Maybe I just have a bad taste in websites I visit/stumble upon, but in general (how about a broad generalization, anyone?), all the people who write stuff online (journalists, bloggers, and retarded people who post comments... not here obviously, but, for instance, YouTube) completely disagree with my point of view.  And maybe I'm just a weird one and maybe I shouldn't be connecting my lack of like-minded web surfers to some farfetched connection to Republicans vs. Democrats online, but this has been something I have noticed for a looooong time.

Anyway, the reason I bring this up is that, yes, I watch American Idol.  I have never really watched it in the past, but since there was a guy (who I'm sure you have heard of by now), Danny Gokey, who was from Milwaukee that had a real shot of winning... well I think that has what has really kept my interest more than anything else.  Of course I am probably biased, but I truly think he is the best one out of all the people that have been on this season.  And he is obviously getting a lot of support from other people out there too because he has never once been in the "bottom three" of the lowest vote getters any week.

To make my point clearer you also need to know that there is another guy, Adam Lambert, in the "top 3" that has apparently already been anointed as the winner.  He is a rocker-type who is full of himself, completely flamboyant, probably gay, and from Hollywood to boot.  Every single time he sings he feels the need to throw in this god-awful shriek... the guy is a total drama queen.  Basically, he is the COMPLETE opposite of Gokey, who is mild mannered, a music director for his church, and is an all round clean-cut, nice guy.

Well... just out of boredom, I perused some message boards and read some articles and read some comments on articles written about the show's most recent episode.  What is up with all the Danny hate and everyone going goo-goo-ga-ga over Adam!?!?  It is completely perplexing how the vast majority of people can't stand Gokey but think Lambert is the next great rock star.  I won't get into exact specifics about what people are saying because this post is already long enough and Google can help you out with that one... but I just can't help but feel it's the classic case of the general population online (at least the vocal population) not matching up with what the real majority of Americans are like (the world at large is perhaps a different story altogether).  If you only read about the contestants online, you would be shocked that Danny is still in the competition.  But, like I mentioned earlier, he has never even been in the bottom 3 (Adam has)... so obviously someone has to be voting for him, right?  Maybe Adam isn't liberal and maybe Danny isn't really all that conservative, but I can't help but think they are just those things.  I can't help but think people are going to naturally be against Danny because of how open he is about his faith.  If I am right though, why is one side so much more heavily represented online than the other?  It will be really interestng to see how the last couple weeks shake out.  I can't help but think Adam is going to win (he's certainly not a bad singer or anything), but like in November 2004... the people who actually get out and vote may still surprise me in the end.

So is it just me or has anyone else noticed something like this?  Sometimes it can be really disheartening to think about how stupid so many people are.  I could go on and on about the general ignorance of the general population and how people are so easily led like sheep... but that's for another post and another day.

Do you think the amount of people online who are liberal is disproportionate to real life?
